TGC received the 2021-2022 Dan Benedict Award for Community Mobilization!
They highlighted TGC’s response throughout the pandemic and listed the following highlights:
The Good Companions mobilized the broader community including the active involvement of senior citizens to address issues of local concern. Examples provided for review were: bringing together volunteers from government offices; ensuring the need for cooling during heat wave was addressed with air conditioning units, food security such as hampers and frozen meals, drive by visits during the holidays, hosting COVID vaccine clinics, hosting virtual programs, Seniors’ Centre Without Walls including training other agencies, virtual and phone based ADP, thousands of check in calls and so much more.
Congratulations to the staff and volunteers on this well deserved recognition.
The Good Companions is updating its policy regarding screening, temperature checks and mask wearing.
Effective Monday, June 13th we will no longer be requiring a temperature check when you enter the Centre or an agency vehicle. Everyone is required to self screen prior to entering the Centre and an agency vehicle.

The Government of Ontario has announced that it will be lifting the mask mandate on June 11, in all areas EXCEPT in high risk settings such as long term care and retirement homes. Masks will continue to be required in these settings. Healthcare organizations are being strongly encouraged to keep mask mandates in place for the time being. As a health care provider serving similar clients, The Good Companions mask requirements will remain in place, unchanged.
For the safety of those that we serve and for ourselves, we will continue to require masks to be worn by everyone entering the Centre or Good Companions transportation vehicles.
Thank you for your understanding and support
