At The Good Companions (TGC), we believe that the strength of our board is foundational to our success in fulfilling our mission and achieving our goals. We seek committed individuals who are passionate about our cause of advancing the health, well-being and social connection for older adults in Ottawa.

We are actively recruiting new volunteer board members to play a vital role in shaping our strategic direction, ensuring accountability, and guiding our efforts to create positive impact in our community.

Key Principles for a Successful Board of Directors at The Good Companions

Commitment: We continue to seek board members who are dedicated to our cause and willing to invest their time, energy, and resources in advancing our organization’s missing in positively impacting the lives of older adults in Ottawa.

Expertise: A successful board benefits from a diverse range of skills and experiences. Whether you bring financial acumen, legal expertise, fundraising skills, or strategic vision, your unique talents will enrich our board’s collective capabilities.

Governance: Upholding the highest standards of governance is essential to maintaining trust and integrity within our organization. Board members are entrusted with fiduciary responsibilities and act with transparency, accountability, and ethical integrity.

Mission and Purpose: Our board members are champions of our mission and advocates for those we serve. By aligning our actions with our organizational values and goals, we can drive meaningful change and create lasting impact.

Engagement: Active participation and collaboration are key to the effectiveness of our board. We encourage open communication, constructive dialogue, and a spirit of teamwork among board members to foster innovation, creativity, and collective decision-making.

*Strong Committees: Committees provide a platform for focused and specialized work on specific aspects of TGC’s operations, programs, or initiatives. We value the collective expertise, energy, and dedication of committee members. Strong committees serve as essential pillars of support for the executive board, enabling effective governance, strategic planning, and implementation of initiatives.

The Executive Officers of the Board meet once per month and the entire Board of Directors meet every other month, approximately 5-6 times per year. Each in-person meeting is 2-2.5 hours, typically from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and Directors are expected to join 1 standing committee which meets quarterly.

We invite all interested individuals to submit their short biography and cover letter to our Executive Director, Matthew Ottaviani, via email at mottaviani@thegoodcompanions.ca by no later than April 10, 2026.
